Infrastructure –  Electrical Design Engineer, Intern (Summer 2016)

Facebook is looking for an intern to assist in electronics and Avionics design of high-altitude solar powered aircraft. A successful candidate will work under the guidance of the Electrical, Power and avionics Engineers and will be required to participate in the development and testing of the aircraft electrical and control systems. This is a 12 week internship position that will be based in Somerset.

Responsibilities

Working with Airframe mechanical, avionics and electrical design engineers to develop and complete the test process for the avionics package and power control system to be used on within the solar powered aircraft.
Co-ordination of suppliers to ensure compatibility of different systems
Initial commissioning and test of power control system and autopilot packages
Ensuring the autopilots provide required information to communications payloads
Validation of the autopilots and power control systems during ground testing
Provision of validation reports
Assistance with theoretical simulations
Participation in flight tests and ground support for UAV
Ongoing system development.

Requirements

Pursuing a BSc or Beng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline
Good understanding of:
Aerospace electrical control systems
Applicable aerospace standards
Aerospace electrical power control systems and their installation process including debugging and validation.
Electronics lab experience – including familiarity with electronics test equipment.
