‘Tulip Fever’ is a historic fictional novel by Deborah Moggach which has been adapted into an upcoming film directed by Justin Chadwick. The tale revolves around a young artist who falls in love with a young married woman. He has been hired to paint a portrait of her during the Tulip Mania in Amsterdam. During the Dutch age, the Tulip mania was a period of economic struggles for companies.
From the trailer, it clearly shows us that director Justin Chadwick, was keen to illustrate all elements of the book, from characterisation to the visual storytelling.
Alicia Vikander, a growing movie star in the making, who was named as one of the European films’ Shooting Stars by the European Film Promotion, plays Sophia. Dane DeHaan, who is highly recognised for his work in ‘The Amazing Spider Man 2’ and ‘True Blood’ portrays Jan Van Loos, the artist who seemingly falls in love with Sophia even though she is married to a controlling husband played by Christoph Waltz.
Throughout the movie, the portrayal of these two key characters is illustrated through passionate and powerful acting and storytelling – adding a sense of excitement for audiences. We are eagerly awaiting for the release, as the trailer of the movie oozes an influential and strong understanding of the Tulip Mania in the 17th century as well as a simple basic tale of love and redemption.
