Mali’s Grammy-winner singer Oumou Sangaré shares a strong message of endurance through life’s challenging times in her new visuals for current single ‘Yere Faga’.
Lifted from her forthcoming album ‘Mogoya’, ‘Yere Faga’ tracks a young woman through the markets and neon-lit clubs of Johannesburg’s Hillbrow area. Speaking about the idea behind the visuals, Chris Saunders (director of ‘Yere Faga’) says he wanted to translate Oumou’s powerful Wassoulou lyrics through the movements of dancer Maipelo Gabang who interprets the message behind ‘Yere Faga’ through his mesmeric performance.
The Malian’s singer forthcoming album ‘Mogoya’ will be co-produced by An-dress in Stockholm and French production collective A.L.B.E.R.T. The album draws on a rich musical heritage whilst also looking to the future.
Oumou Sangaré has a high international profile; having collaborated with artists such as Alicia Keys, Tracy Chapman, Bela Fleck and Dee Dee Bridgewater. May 17th will mark Oumou’s first ever UK concert with a full band since 2011. Taking place at Village Underground – tickets are available via See Tickets.
