Not to be confused with the 1992 Harrison Ford thriller with a similar name, 2017’s ‘Patriot’s Day’ is the true story of the Boston Marathon bombings of 2013 which caused 6 deaths and more than 200 injuries.

The film looks at the outcome of the attacks for a number of people. Mark Wahlberg plays Boston Police Department Sergeant Tommy Saunders, a fictional character, and John Goodman plays Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, who is not a fictional character. As well as focusing on police officers on the day of the attacks as well as its aftermath in the search for the terrorists who planted the bombs, the film also focuses on a real – life couple who survived the attacks, Jessica Kensky and Patrick Downes, played by ‘House of Cards’ actress Rachel Brosnahan and ‘Madame Secretary’ star Christopher O’Shea.

The drama film is directed by Peter Berg in his second release in less than a year, he also directed the Mark Wahlberg disaster film ‘Deepwater Horizon’, which was released in the UK in September.

‘Patriot’s Day’ is a gripping drama of a true life event that shocked the world. The film is out now in the UK.
