Rina Sawayama brings more of those futuristic-alter-cyber-pop vibes with her new single “Cherry”. The track is forward with her Mariah-Carey influenced vocals against a very alter-pop instrumentals and ethereal strings. It’s likable, and very catchy and we’re sure that it’ll become a hit.

There’s an element of those 00s R&B melodies within the track that has those ballad feels and sing-a-along spirit that’s fresh and resurrected for a whole new young audience. Still currently on her Ordinary Superstar Tour in the States (with a date at the Heaven on the 19th October), Sawayama gets her increasing “Pixels” fanbase all in the nostalgia. Indeed, her sound is fast forward projection of how pop would be in 2038. Just like as how Kelela bridged the past, present and future with one track “Let Me Know”, Rina Sawayama does the same, playing away with instrumentals that makes her music a forward thinking piece.
