Shooting People’s new career development focused film competition SHORT CUTS has launched and submissions are now open until 31 January. We’re celebrating 20 years of Shooting People this year and we want to mark the occasion by giving independent filmmakers an opportunity to win industry mentoring, filmmaking equipment and £1,000 in film funding.

There will be four rounds to the competition across 2018, starting this January. The overall winner will be selected by the BAFTA-winning and Oscar nominated producer Stephen Woolley (Carol, The Crying Game) and announced at an awards ceremony in January 2019.

Round winner prizes include industry mentorship from BFI NETWORK, Creative England, Channel 4 Random Acts, Lightbox and Wildgaze Films, as well as filmmaking gear and prizes. You will also have a public screening of your film at a Shooting People event in London, as well as further promotion through our networks.

SHORT CUTS is only open to Shooting People members, so if you’re not yet part of the community, then you can sign up for 50% off with our SHORT CUTS special discount. Shooting People is the UK’s largest community of independent filmmakers and actors with over 45,500 members, so you don’t need to try and make it out there on your own.

To kick the competition off, and to buy you all a beer, we're inviting you to the SHORT CUTS Launch Party on Thursday 11 January at Rich Mix in London from 19:00 (event starts at 20:00).

Shooting People Director and Founder, Cath Le Couteur, will be in conversation with writer/director Hope Dickson Leach (The Levelling) and producer Manon Ardisson (God’s Own Country). We’ll be discussing their breakout feature projects and all the work that led into them, hearing their insights on navigating the industry as independent filmmakers.

Come and meet your fellow filmmakers, network, and welcome in the new year with some like-minded folk.
