Natalie Portman is back, and she’s starring in her first Western! With the recent release of “The Hateful Eight”, the upcoming remake of “The Magnificent Seven”, could it be that the Western genre is on the rise again?
Portman’s role in “Jane Got a Gun“ can also be added to the mix, and only time will tell whether the genre reaches it’s old heights again. With movies as great as “Jane Got a Gun”, we wouldn’t be surprised!
In the film, Natalie Portman plays Jane Hammond, wife of Ham Hammond, and the two have recently rebuilt their lives after being terrorised by the Bishops Boys. One night Ham is attacked by the leader of Bishops Boys, John Bishop, played by the “Star Wars” prequels’ Obi Wan Kenobi, Ewan Mcgregor. Jane asks for help from her former fiancé, Dan Frost, played by “The Great Gatsby” and “Midnight Special” star Joel Edgerton. It all becomes a battle for survival in this thrilling Western, surely a modern classic.
The film is directed by Gavin O’Connor, director of “Warrior”, also starring Joel Edgerton. Like. Portman, this is O’Connor’s first Western.
“Jane Got a Gun” will surely wet your appetites for the upcoming remake of classic Western “The Magnificent Seven”, starring Chris Pratt and Denzel Washington at the end of the year (keep your eye out for our review of that film too).
“Jane Got a Gun” is released on April 22 2016.
