It has been over a 15 YEARS since ” Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” hit the cinemas world-wide and 13 YEARS since the sequel (Cradle of Life) was release. Both films started Angelina Jolie and both went on to be extremely successful upon their releases. However, after the resurge in popularity of the most recent Tomb Raider video games, 2013’s Tomb Raider and 2015’s “Rise of the Tomb Raider”, we will also be getting a new Tomb Raider movie with a new Lara Croft!
Croft will now be played by Oscar winning star of “The Danish Girl”, Swedish actress Alicia Vikander. She beat out other hopefuls for the role including Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke as well as Star Wars‘ Daisy Ridley. The role is one of Angelina Jolie’s most known but we’re certain that Vikander can make it her own.
Not much is known about the film’s plot yet just that it will focus more on Lara Croft’s origins. However we do know that it will be distributed by MGM and Warner Brothers and its release date is currently set at March 16th 2018.
