We hope that it should ring a bell.
For three years, he’s been pursuing his music projects. Now in 2015, he’s become well known for his films. With his own production team under his company Blame The Consumer, Remi has been growing from strength to strength. Already, his first short “Crooked Frame” has been selected for three major film festivals — including one in Los Angeles.
That’s mad yo’! High-five to him!
This year, it’s getting better; as he’s working on three major short film projects: “Sapiens”, “Baddies” and the new one (that we never knew about) “Signs of Silence”.
R.M Moses gives us a honest interview about his transition from MilliPix, the success so far working with new talent in his projects and some insight into the synopsis of his upcoming films.
He really gets honest as to why he changed from music to film, as well as the “urban” stigma surrounding films that have young people as star cast. If that wasn’t enough, the film director/screenwriter gives his thoughts about the “Matrix Trilogy” reboot that they planned on doing.

1. From the guy from MilliPix to upcoming filmmaker, screenwriter and founder of Blame The Consumer…
Haha, I don’t think I’m ever going to be able to shake that tagname. All my friends still call me Milli.
2. Busy busy busy we see with your two film projects. You’ve recently teased with a Twitter image from movie “Sapiens”. Looking good “bruh” !
Thank you! I’m actually working on three films. The third being “Signs of Silence” which is a story about a young deaf man trying to find independence. It’s really emotional and all three films are so different from one another.
3. Take us through the inspiration and imagery of the film posters…
When I have a vision of what the product should look like, I really try to strive for perfection. The artwork and trailer, is primarily used to catch your attention so I try to create interesting posters and promo pics. The “Baddies” poster artwork and screenshots should be up soon.
4. Still, thank you for having this interview with us as well as supporting! We feel very humbled.
Are you kidding me?! I’m so overwhelmed that you are interested in my work. Giving me this platform to express myself a little is so helpful and I humbly appreciate the support.
5. Since you’re the director of the movies “Sapiens” and “Baddies” (and we couldn’t get anything out of the cast), describe in one sentence what both movies are about. Just one sentence please.
Sapiens – a mix between inception, misfits and…oh wait, I’ve already said too much.
Baddies – a dark, gritty and seductive story about prostitution.
6. The cast in these upcoming movies — were you familiar with some of their work or did you just see potential? Please give us an insight as to how the casting came about for both movies (“Sapiens” & “Baddies”). Feel free to spend some time to reflect on working with the cast.
“Baddies” took 6 months of pre-production planning. It got complexities but has a really simple story. The cast were chosen from Casting Call Pro, Twitter calls and IMDb casting. The cast were very responsive to the script and on our first reading day, we sat there for like 2 hours just saying “What if?” and “Omg, wouldn’t it be cool if…” and that session really helped create a whole universe for this film. I love it when the talent are enthusiastic about the project, it makes the whole process so much fun.
The cast of “Sapiens” were selected because I had seen work from them before and thought that they had so much potential. Also, we’ve spent a lot of time together now and when we meet up it is genuinely like a family day. They are such cool people; we are always smiling and joking around. The film is really grounded and is something I see being received well because of the actors’ amazing performances.
7. However, this isn’t your first short! You’ve produced movies such as “Crooked Frame”, “Blowing on Embers” and “Responder”. We guess that your two upcoming projects is moving your film career into a new direction, as “Sapiens” is a first sci-fi indie movie while “Baddies” is more of a gritty thriller…
Yeah, I would say so. These films have longevity in mind. “Baddies” will be a feature length film next year, and “Sapiens” will be a TV show sometime in the next 2 years. These films are just glimpses of what’s in store. Even “Crooked Frame” I would like to extend to a feature length film, but we will see. For now, I only want to create creatively compelling and stimulating work. Both these films, especially “Sapiens”, will shake things up in the indie film industry.
8. What made you leave your music ambitions to pursue your filming career? Are you still open to making music projects in the future? You know, revisit your MilliPix ol’ self?
I loved working with singers on “Sing Out Loud Sundays” but it started getting boring for me. Also I was rinsing a lot of money just to keep it going and the views were not significant enough to actually be of purpose, so I had to put it to bed. I’ve been told to bring it back to life but for now, there are bigger things going on that I can’t take my attention away from.
9. Now here comes our tough question. Don’t be scared because it’s just for fun — honestly 😊.
a) Pick any sci-fi movie. It has to be a blockbuster one.
b) Tell us what you love about it.
c) Tell us how you would place a R.M Moses spin to it to make it part of your Blame the Consumer production. If you want to add or subtract cast members, change the script or plot of the story then please mention it!
“The Matrix” trilogy is my favourite set of movies of all time. The originality is crazy, like, the storyline about Zion and the machine world with the matrix being the link… it’s all crazy man. I love the fight scenes. For an old film, the fight scenes are unparalleled. I heard they are rebooting it, and that makes me so upset and anxious. I mean, I don’t think anyone will be able to top Keanu Reeves. But if I was the one who got to make the reboot, I would center the story around Neo and Trinity’s son 20 years after the attack on Zion ended. Keeping the cast young would be key. Imagine how amazing it would be with the current generation of talent, special effects and cameras.
10. Do you consider yourself Professor X? Since we believe that’s who you are. How are you like Professor X and what makes you different from the X-Men leader?
Haha, no way! Charles Xavier is my father, but thanks for telling the world I have super powers! After this interview I’m going to be hunted by the government. I wouldn’t see myself as a reflection of Prof X, I would like to think I was more of a Zordon from Power Rangers.
11. Your movie “Sapiens” and Urban Gem’s “Seventeen” are creating a new genre exploring and the idea of average citizens with supernatural powers. A new generation of filmmakers are taking the stand of owning their own images of young people and their communities. How do you feel being part of these new minds? After seeing “Crooked Frame” being selected at the Los Angeles, Top Shorts and Cutting East Film Festivals.
I take great pride in it, I would love to see more filmmakers creating positive or creative narratives based around society and youth. Since”Kidulthood”, every “urban” project has a preconceived stigma attached to it before it’s even seen, just because youth are the leads. “Sapiens” is more about friendship and futures. The heart in this film is what makes it different.
12. “Sapiens” – the first with an all Black cast seen as superheroes. Breakthrough from common stereotypes. Better to create your own superheroes if you can’t get into what’s there already. Considering the debate surrounding Michael B Jordan playing Torch from “Fantastic Four”…
Well hopefully when we get the TV show greenlit, it will be the first of it’s kind to be shown to the world. Breakthrough or not, I think we have a winner here. I think MBJ is an amazing actor, and from the F4 trailer, you can see how grounded the characters are and how much presence he has on screen.
13. Any exclusive collaborations coming up? Who do you wish to work with in the future? It can be anyone; from an upcoming actor to filmmaker.
No collaborations at the moment. All last year I was sending out waves of tweets trying to get other filmmakers to collaborate with me but nothing. So now I have my BTC team; I just want to keep creating with them. Loyalty is everything to me. I would love to work with JJ Abrams and Luc Besson.
14. What is the release date for “Sapiens” and “Baddies”? How can people be updated with the latest updates of the progress of these movies?
“Signs of Silence” will be the first release sometime in November. “Sapiens” and “Baddies” might not come out till the second quarter of 2016. There are a lot of film festivals that have to have the world premiere, so we will have to wait until after that. Nevertheless, I am always tweeting updates so keep an eye out for promo pics, screenshots, trailers and behind the scenes exclusives.
