Infrastructure –  Aerospace Structural Engineer, Intern (Summer 2016)

Facebook is looking for an intern to assist in structural design of high-altitude solar powered aircraft. A successful candidate will work under the guidance of the Structural analysts and will be required to complete calculations and research associated with the optimisation of the composite airframe. This is a 12 week internship position that will be based in Somerset.


Work closely with the airframe specialists, launch system teams and vendors to develop the airframe design
Work with aerodynamicists to develop applicable operating load spectrums
Help develop structural analysis, for airframe components, to support approval and certification requirements
Develop structural test requirements
Provide formal written reports of all analysis


Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aeronautical Engineering or a related technical discipline
Must have completed modules focussed on structural analysis
Experience of Finite Element (FE ) Techniques is an advantage
Must have good understanding of mechanical design requirements and methods for component bonding and jointing
Composites knowledge would be an advantage
