Screen Nation’s winning movie “The Cursed Ones” places the promising future of the African film industry into the global eye – and us at the NWD HQ are definitely taking note on the emerging rise of quality filmmakers who are creating a niche that will allow the African Diaspora to reflect, direct and control the image they make and in turn showcase to the world. In addition to creating an open debate about the future of Africa based on true historical events; from it’s glorious past to it’s current state as the richest continent on the face of the earth.
“The Cursed Ones” explores the rise of ‘witch children’ that was apparently brought to the continent. Many have done a insight into this wrong religious torture, where children are neglected, abused and even killed. Oris Erhuero plays a reporter who gets caught up in a witch hunt in a West African village that has been suffering a number of mis-fortunate events, with the Pastor (Fred Amugi) stating that it stems to a young girl. Not only does this find the reporter battling to save the life of the girl, but also the false prophets who are brainwashing the people to believe these accusations.
Ama K Abebrese and Rama Brew are added to the star lineup, making this movie one of best for discussion on a very controversial issue. There’s no deny that religion was used to rob the continent and the people, despite many Africans being from a very religious home & background – Africa still remains out of the control of Africans.
